JOURNAL OF A VOYAGE IN 1811 & 1812

Publisher : London: Edward Arnold & Co.

The book is a rare and fascinating travelogue with beautifully hand-crafted leather re-binding and gold tooling. Edges are untrimmed with 24 hand colored illustrations drawn by the author. Pages are foxed, but not affecting the images or the text.

The book documents Wathen voyage to India and China with his school friend, Captain James Pendergrass. The voyage began in England, and the ship visited Madras, Pondicherry, Pulo Penang, Malacca, and Canton, before returning to England by way of the Cape of Good Hope and St. Helena. Wathen's journal includes his observations of the cultures, flora, and fauna encountered during the voyage, as well as interactions with the diverse crew and passengers aboard the vessel.
